Kisirian Masai Warrior 2

Posted by Paul Wright (Wiltshire, United Kingdom) on 23 March 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Almost within sight of Nairobi's tower blocks and traffic jams, the Masai have continued to practise their ancient rituals and ceremonies; they have continued to maintain their age-set structure with its warrior caste of haughty, swift and predatory moran - storm troopers or commandos of the tribal world.

An elegant and handsome people, I had the privilege to spend time with two of these proud people sometime ago. Didn't get a lot of time to take shots, but hopefully made the time I had count? The thing that struck me was their sincerity, air of presence, an aura that was palpable! Also fun.......they laughed constantly, mainly at my fumblings! What a day it was?!!!

I must thank Tim and Joseph (two fine people), Kenyan's who have settled (in Swindon) and used to run a wonderfully exotic specialist Kenyan store in Swindon's Market Hall for giving me today's opportunity............................. ....thanks guys! They are fiercely proud of their heritage and so they should be.

Both warriors (another shot posted on the 21/03/08) are from the Ngong division in Kenya.

They were in Britain to take part in an exhibition in the Docklands, London promoting awareness of their culture.

I didn't get their names as we had such a short time together......I could kick myself!
