I didn't use a telescope.

I used a Sigma EX zoom lens - 50 mm - 500 mm on a tripod (F/4.0-6.3) zoomed all the way out. The lens was attached to the tripod rather than the camera. I used the 'timer' option on the camera to minimize camera shake.

I had the 1.5X magnification factor in my favour also as I was using a Canon 350D.........it really helped!

The image has still relatively small in the viewfinder. I under-exposed the image to retain as much tonality as possible. Then I cropped the image in Photoshop and used the 'curves' option and 'unsharp mask' filter to finish off the image.
